One of a kind feature neckpiece created for the 2023 York Botanic Art Prize
I'm always drawn to create work inspired by near threatened species of plants. The Granite Claw Flower is only found in a small part of Southwest Western Australia and it’s unique one sided blooms fascinated and inspired me to create an equally unique piece of adornment.
This work, inspired by the Calothamnus graniticus, forms part of a broader narrative of our unique plants adaptive qualities to exist in certain environments. The neckpiece is created to come apart and be worn on the body in a variety of ways, adjusting to the situation and desire of the wearer, becoming a metaphor of native plants adaptations and how we need to adapt and change if we are to preserve the fragile environment in the future.
I enjoy creating pieces that are truly multifunctional, this piece can be a statement neckpiece, brooch, simple garland necklace or a pendant.
